About Keio
Learning, Thinking, and Acting to Shape the Future of Society
Keio University carries on the legacy of its founder Yukichi Fukuzawa as it strives to be an institution where individuals think independently, take action, and set the course of their own the future. Since its founding in 1858, Keio has been guided by the principles of independence and self-respect. At Keio, we don’t stop at simply acquiring academic knowledge, having long recognized the importance of applying the fruits of its scholarship to society. As a comprehensive educational institution encompassing all levels from elementary school to graduate school, Keio brings together students, faculty, staff, and alumni into a shared community of learning, where each member contributes to the creation of new value in their respective fields. As Keio continues to engage with society through education, research, and healthcare, it is also pursuing a variety of new initiatives, such as becoming an “AI-Native University,” to cultivate the knowledge and skillsets that can meet the changing demands of the times.
