On June 5, a delegation comprising representatives from universities, ministries of education, state education departments, etc., across Latin America—including Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Argentina, and Costa Rica—visited our university.

The delegation was welcomed by Professor Ho Namkoong, Associate Dean of the School of Medicine (International Affairs, Social Medicine and Preventive Medicine), Chair of the School of Medicine International Exchange Committee, and professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases. Dr. Matheus Torsani, Chief Academic Officer of the School of Medicine at the University of São Paulo, delivered opening remarks on behalf of the delegation.

The visit continued with presentations introducing our School of Medicine’s research and clinical initiatives, followed by lively discussions and a question-and-answer session.

Professor Kazuhiro Sakurada of the Department of Extended Intelligence for Medicine, the Ishii-Ishibashi Laboratory, presented the department’s research initiatives centered on Extended Intelligence in healthcare. Delegation members praised the presentation as “highly interesting and excellent,” and the discussion generated such strong interest that the Q&A session continued beyond the scheduled time.

In addition, Project Senior Assistant Professor Ryoichi Yokoyama of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology spoke about prospects for research and implementation of AI in the field of radiology. Participants commented that they were “greatly inspired” by the presentation, and some aspiring researchers sought advice on pursuing future research in the field.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity for both sides to exchange knowledge and perspectives across education, research, and clinical practice. It is hoped that this exchange will serve as a foundation for further international collaboration in the future.
