On Thursday, October 10, 2024, the 5th Research Showcase - Hidden Jewels Session Vol. 12 & 13 was held.
This 5th session, held as Vol. 12 & Vol. 13, featured Professor Yoko Ibuka from the Faculty of Economics and Senior Assistant Professor Yuki Kanazawa from the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care.
Professor Ibuka presented on the theme "Exploring Health Risks from Alternative Data," introducing her research on the impact of pension receipt on health. Her study utilizes highly granular and timely alternative data, a resource that has seen increasing use in recent years.
Additionally, Senior Assistant Professor Kanazawa presented on the theme "Why Do Midwives Who Only Handle Natural Births Incorporate an Engineering Perspective into Midwifery?--Current Status and Challenges in the Field of Perinatal Care." She discussed the current situation and challenges surrounding childbirth and introduced a patent-pending device as an attempt to incorporate an engineering perspective into midwifery.
Following each presentation, a salon talk was held with Professor Keigo Komamura of the Faculty of Law and Professor Tatsuhiko Yamamoto of the Law School (Deputy Director of KGRI). In a casual and informal salon-like atmosphere, a discussion unfolded that delved deeper into the presentation themes.
This session is part of a series that introduces researchers with outstanding research capabilities as "Hidden Jewels." It aims to publicize the appeal of the research and the researchers both within and outside Keio, promote encounters and exchanges between different fields, and foster new research collaborations through connections among researchers. Although the event is intended for university members, the research presentations and the subsequent interdisciplinary roundtable discussion (salon talk) are recorded and archived for public viewing.
