The 6th Research Showcase - Hidden Jewels Session Vol. 14 & 15 was held on Thursday, November 14, 2024.
This 6th session, held as Vol. 14 & Vol. 15, featured two guest professors from the Faculty of Letters: Professor Yasuhiro Arahata and Professor Mari Agata.
Professor Arahata introduced his research on a philosophical theory of the world, which aims to unravel the difficult-to-interpret concept of the "world." Under the theme "Where is the world?," he used the "Sekai-kei" genre as a starting point, also touching on considerations of modern philosophy.
Additionally, Professor Agata presented her research under the theme "Research on Movable Type in the Dawn of Letterpress Printing Using Digital Data." Her work aims to elucidate the casting methods of movable type in the early days of letterpress printing by performing character recognition on images of the Gutenberg Bible using digital technology.
Following the lectures, a salon talk was held with Professor Junichi Ushiba of the Faculty of Science and Technology and Professor Tatsuhiko Yamamoto of the Law School (Deputy Director of KGRI). A discussion delving into the presentation themes unfolded in a casual, flat, and salon-like atmosphere.
This session is part of a series that introduces researchers with outstanding research capabilities as "Hidden Jewels." It aims to publicize the appeal of the research and the researchers both inside and outside Keio, promote encounters and exchanges between different fields, and create new research collaborations through connections with researchers. Although the event is intended for university affiliates, the research presentations and the subsequent interdisciplinary roundtable discussion (salon talk) are recorded and archived for public viewing.
